Feature Request - Alert When Custom Performance Counter Value Exceeds a Range

I encountered an issue where I used a custom performance counter to retrieve the ambient temperature value of a network device, and I need to receive an alert when this value is ABOVE a certain value OR BELOW a certain value. Current threshold configurations do not allow this, thus the workaround was to duplicate the performance counter for each monitor and configure one to alert when the upper value is breached and one to alert when the lower value is breached. I would like to request that range-based thresholds be added to threshold configuration.

Thanks!

Hi Ben,
Thank you for detailing this use case.

Monitoring ambient temperature (or any metric that has both a safe upper and lower bound) is a great example of where a single "greater than OR less than" range threshold would be far more efficient than maintaining duplicate counters.

We appreciate the workaround you've implemented, and want to be transparent about where things currently stand:
Current limitation: Range-based thresholds (alerting when a value falls outside a defined upper and lower bound in a single rule) are not supported for custom performance counters at this time. This capability is currently available only for device-level metrics.

We understand this creates extra overhead - duplicating counters per monitor just to cover both directions of a threshold isn't ideal, especially at scale.

We've logged this as a feature request for extending range-based threshold support to performance counters, and will update this thread as soon as there's progress to share.
