Network traffic monitoring settings

This section explains the Settings page options available for managing flow-based traffic monitoring in Site24x7.

Modifying settings

  1. Log in to your Site24x7 account.
  2. Navigate to Network > NetFlow > Settings.
  3. Modify the following settings as needed
    1. Start tracking device traffic when flows are received.
      Description:
Enabling this option begins monitoring traffic automatically for a device as soon as flow data (NetFlow, sFlow, etc.) is received from it.
      • Yes: Site24x7 will begin tracking device traffic immediately upon receiving flows.
      • No: Device traffic won't be tracked automatically unless manually configured.

      Use case:
It is ideal for environments where new devices are continuously added, and flow export is already configured at the device level. It ensures that no manual intervention is needed to start monitoring.

    2. Automatically add discovered interfaces for monitoring.
      Description:
When this setting is enabled, Site24x7 will automatically detect and add all newly discovered interfaces (from the flow data) for traffic monitoring.
      • Yes: All discovered interfaces will be monitored without requiring manual addition.
      • No: You will need to select and add interfaces for monitoring manually.

      Use case:
This is useful when interface changes (like new sub-interfaces or VLANs) occur frequently and you want continuous monitoring without manual updates.

Recommendations

  • Enable both options if you're looking for hands-off, automated monitoring of network traffic and interfaces.
  • If you want stricter control over what gets monitored, leave them disabled and configure them manually.
